Turn Back the Clock with Popular Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation Treatments

As we age, our bodies often do not mirror the youthful vitality that we may have on the inside.  Our facial skin loses elasticity from the effects of time, gravity and even sun exposure.  Luckily, the experienced providers at Abraham Medical Cosmetics offer popular non-surgical procedures, cosmetic injections like Botox® and Dysport® and facial fillers Radiesse® and Restylane®, to help patients combat those common signs of aging that can keep them from looking as young as they feel.

facial rejuvenation snellville gaAccording to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the top two non-surgical procedures for 2013 were cosmetic injectables and dermal fillers with 8.5 million combined procedures performed.  Why you may ask?  Simply put, it’s an ideal facial rejuvenation procedure used to address wrinkles, fine lines, crow’s feet and areas of lost volume in a non-surgical way – with minimal downtime!

Over time, the combination of repetitive facial expressions and natural aging causes wrinkling to form on the forehead, brow, and eye area.   Botox® Cosmetic is a dermal injectable made of a protein and neurotoxin in a purified form (Botulinum toxin A) that is used to relax muscles on the upper facial area.  A few quick Botox® injections produce results that can generally last four months and create a smoother, more youthful appearance.

For other areas of the face around the nose, lips/mouth and cheeks that have lost suppleness with age, fillers like Restylane® and Radiesse®, made from the naturally occurring non-animal hyaluronic acid, restore lost volume and refine fine lines and deep wrinkles.  Fillers additionally boost the body’s natural collagen production allowing results to last from six months to over a year depending on the specific filler used.

Cosmetic injectables are excellent solutions for adults who would like to renew their youthful appearance but may not yet be ready for more extensive surgical procedures like a facelift.  For more information on these cosmetic treatments or other services we provide, contact us today!   You can also follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ for the latest specials and updates.

A Guide to Beach-Ready Skin: Chemical Peels

Getting beach-ready skin that won’t break the bank is a lot easier than many of our patients may think.  The providers of Abraham Medical Cosmetics often get a lot of questions from patients about facial rejuvenation procedures that don’t necessarily require a lot of treatments or downtime, yet produce great results by restoring the healthy glow of their youth.  One of the treatments we recommend are chemical peels as they are ideal treatments to help you give your skin the year-round rejuvenation it deserves.  Below we answer three frequently asked questions we hear from patients considering chemical peel treatments.

abraham cosmetic proceduresWhat are chemical peels?

Chemical peels are carefully-crafted chemical solution treatments to improve the overall appearance of facial skin.  Utilizing compounds like alphahydroxy acid (AHA), beta hydroxy acid (BHA), or retinoic acid, chemical peels remove the outer layers of damaged skin and regenerates new skin cells to reveal healthy skin underneath.   The end result is smoother, firmer, healthier skin.

Which peel is right for me?

Each peel targets specific skin concerns from sun damage (age spots), acne, fine lines, wrinkles and uneven skin tones.  Depending on your specific needs, a patient with sensitive skin may get a lighter peel while patients with more extensive skin damage may need a deeper peel.  At your initial consultation, we will perform a skin analysis and discuss various treatment options in order to find the perfect chemical peel strength to meet your unique needs.

What is a chemical peel procedure like and is there any associated downtime?

Treatment times depend on the specific peel we use, however all of our peel treatments take 30 minutes to an hour.  We start by cleansing the skin to remove dirt and oils from the face before the chemical solution is externally applied (a cooling device is used to reduce discomfort).  Lastly, we cleanse the face to remove any residual solution.  Within the first 24 hours following your cosmetic procedure, the skin may appear flushed and possible facial swelling may occur.  The first day or two after your treatment, the skin then goes into a peeling process that can last one to two weeks as new skin gradually reveals itself.  Generally, all of our peels require no recovery or downtime and you are able to return to regular routines immediately.

The Sun Knows No Season

Sun damage is an infamous factor in the development of skin cancer and aging.  With the summer heat blazing, it is inevitable to completely shield your skin from harmful, potentially cancer-causing ultraviolet (UV) rays.  Luckily there are numerous cosmetic treatments we offer that can help you prevent skin cancer and treat sun damage for those long-term sun worshippers.  When combined, these treatments can revive the skin by restoring it to the healthy glow of our youth:

Makeup: The Jane Iredale® mineral makeup collection is perfect for all skin types and was recently awarded the Skin Cancer Foundation Seal of Recommendation.  Jane Iredale® offers non-comedogenic makeup that won’t block pores and provides SPF coverage, with broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection from sun damage.

Sunscreen: Undoubtedly the most effective way to help shield your skin from those damaging UV rays.  All skin types/tones are susceptible to sunburn 365 days a year, whether cold, rainy or cloudy.  We recommend everyone regularly apply a sunscreen that protects against both UVA/UVB rays with an SPF of at least 30.

Facial Rejuvenation: Treatments like Photofacial IPL and chemical peels can help erase areas of dark hyperpigmentation and tighten lax skin that results from sun exposure; however, it’s important to remember that sun damage is cumulative and the damaging internal effects sun exposure can have on skin cell replication should be prevented with regular sunscreen usage.

At Abraham Medical Cosmetics, we love the outdoors and soaking up the sun just as much as the next person; however, we always encourage our patients to practice safe-sun techniques – no matter your age!  To learn more about our products and services, give us a call at 770-978-1161.  Be sure to connect with us on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ for the latest skin care specials and updates!

Slim Down the Non-Surgical Way!

The days of bulky sweaters and jackets will soon be a thing of the past.  The weather is getting nicer and that means jam-packed summer activities will soon take priority!  Whether you’re heading to the beach or want to be picture ready for upcoming events, now is the best time to achieve the look you want.  At Abraham Medical Cosmetics we meet with patients who are interested in achieving a slimmer, more defined body contour but don’t necessarily want to go the surgical route.

zerona laser liposuction atlanta georgiaOne of the most innovative treatments we offer is Zerona® which reduces fat and inches from the hips, buttocks, upper arms and back without the pain and down time associated with traditional surgery.  Our fat and cellulite reduction treatments are some of our most popular cosmetic services because they are non-invasive and require little to no downtime.

FDA approved for fat reduction, Zerona® uses a low-level laser setting to emulsify the fat within cells below the skin.  What this means is that Zerona® doesn’t remove the fat cells from the body, but causes the fat within fat cells to escape and be absorbed and disposed of by the body’s lymphatic system.  Zerona® is a non-invasive fat reduction method in comparison to laser liposuction which is a type of surgical fat removal.

Applied externally, Zerona® treatment lasts 30 minutes to an hour.  Typically patients require four to six individual treatments to successfully reduce fat and inches from just about any area of the body and achieve their desired fat reduction results.  While no substitute for diet and exercise, Zerona® fat reduction helps patients who, for whatever reason (pregnancy, genetics, hormonal imbalances, etc.), cannot get rid of excess fat and cellulite with diet and exercise alone.

Fat reduction treatments are only a small portion of what we have to offer at Abraham Medical Cosmetics, so be sure to check out the rest of our website or contact us today for a complete list of the services we provide.  Be sure to connect with us on Facebook and Twitter to stay up to date on the latest news, updates and specials.
